Office Before and After: Day 13

I’m skipping Day 12 of the Creativity Challenge. I just have no desire to write a song, so let’s move on to Day 13′s prompt, which is to “change up the look of a room in your house.”

Now, some people might rearrange furniture or start painting walls right about now. Me? I’ve discovered the cheapest way to change the look of a room is to clean it. Here are some before and after shots of my tax-deductible office. Click to make them bigger if you want to read my diploma or see what books are on my shelf in addition to The Time Traveler’s Wife and Sin and Syntax.

You’d be disappointed when you discovered I run out of “creativity” after just one room!

My husband and I cleaned the ever-loving hell out of our office a few months ago. We call it the office, but it’s mostly a dumping ground that we rarely enter. Since we cleaned it (and donated an entire carful of crap to VOA), it’s become the dumping ground for stuff people give us for our eventual foster kid, that we can’t really get rid of until we actually get a kid and see what will be useful. It gives me a stomachache to go in there. Perhaps I should allow this post to inspire me to sort the room out again and put things where they go.

I have a closet that has so many empty boxes in it that I fear to open the door.  I keep thinking I’ll use them for Christmas, but–really–how many gifts do I think I’m going to give?  ”Ah, yes, a left mitten!  The right mitten is wrapped separately….”  Good work on your office!

It looks great! I’m feeling motivated to cleanup my home office. (Sort of.)
