In The Future There Will Be Prizes

50s robotIf I took the amount of money I make from this blog and divided it by the number of hours I spend writing, promoting, and developing content for it, my hourly rate would make a grown man with dacryostenosis cry.

Yet I keep plugging away. In the next six months, you can expect to see some wicked-cool stuff popping up here. Mostly because I love blogging, and I love my readers.

But You Said Prizes

Yeah, I did. In the last two weeks I’ve spent countless hours preparing for my biggest event to date, Writers’ Week.

If you’ve never hosted an event of this size, you might not realize just what’s required. Stuff like creating ad price sheets, FAQs, ad and prize submission forms; integrating online payments for ad purchases; soliciting advertisers and prize donors (there’s still time to advertise, by the way); drafting contest details; planning the editorial calendar; writing, researching and proofing posts; begging my writer colleagues to share their tips with my Writers’ Week audience; and lying awake nights wondering what I’ve left out.

The big Writers’ Week announcement for contest participants and readers doesn’t officially roll out until Monday, but here’s a sneak peak at what’s coming to Suess’s Pieces one glorious week in September:

  • A huge writing contest. HUGE, I say! To date, prizes donated by sponsors include $175 in Amazon.com gifts cards, T-shirts, books, e-Books, and professional graphic design services.
  • A full week of posts for writers and aspiring writers including advice from professional writers, online resource compilations and other goodies.
  • The opportunity to connect with other writers through link-ups and #writersweek chatter on Twitter.

Other Coolness

A new tagline is on the horizon.

Then I will also be commissioning a professional logo for Suess’s Pieces. I hope you will all ooh and ahh with me at the official unveiling, which is TBA.

In a nutshell, what I hope to do with this blog in the next six months to a year is build a community for writers and readers by publishing a variety of entertaining and informative content from book reviews and guest posts to diary entries and articles.

Are you taking suggestions on the new tagline? You should run a poll, if only so you can completely disregard the results and declare you know what’s best for us all. Either way – your passion for writing is inspiring, and I look forward to what is to come.

Thanks. :) A poll is actually a great idea. But first I have to come up with enough taglines to warrant a poll.

Taglines are SO hard to come up with. It’s like picking a baby name. I also like the poll idea. Hrm. Something to consider.

Tell me about it. I haven’t been satisfied with anything I’ve come up with so far!

          • http://www.scriptinghappiness.com Jeena Cho

Do you have a top 3 “maybes?” Maybe we can help you brainstorm.

          • http://blog.emilysuess.com Emily Suess

Not yet. :/ I don’t even have 1 maybe. But it’s on my list!

Taglines are ridiculously difficult. And why I do not have one :P

  • http://twitter.com/story3girl story3girl

I like prizes!  And I like taglines too.  I will definitely have to get to know you better.   :)

    • http://blog.emilysuess.com Emily Suess

Well I’m prone to oversharing (as evidenced by my divorce blogging a couple years back) so it should be easy to get to know me. :)

Having been a former prize winner – a rare Emily Suess writing journal – I have felt the thrill and awe of receiving something that Emily actually touched with her own hands. (insert Bieber scream here)  This will be a tough competition though, with all the talented writers who follow this blog.  If Mr Green gets involved we’re all screwed.

    • http://blog.emilysuess.com Emily Suess

I don’t think there’s any reason to worry about John jumping into the mix, and I had totally forgotten about that cafepress journal. Sometimes I even forget that I used to be Two Write Hands!

  • MannahattaMamma

Wow. Sounds great–so focused and sort of ready-to-go. I’m waiting for the rollout. Thanks to summerblogsocial for letting me find your blog. Yay.

    • http://blog.emilysuess.com Emily Suess

I’m glad you’re liking it here, and I hope you’ll come back for Writers’ Week (and every other week, to be honest). :)

So, will robots be part of the prizes (totally being sarcastic)?!

I know so many who will want to learn more about writing. I need to send Eli Rose traffic your way for this!

    • http://blog.emilysuess.com Emily Suess

      LOL. Nope, no robots…yet!

I would love you forever if you helped me promote Writers’ Week on Eli Rose! :) On Monday there will be a button to grab for anyone who wants to use it in a post or place it in their sidebar.

I don’t care much for prizes myself but I do like to read a good blog. Your is. That is all.

    • http://blog.emilysuess.com Emily Suess

Thanks. And I’m sure through the writing prompt link-up you’ll find some other great blogs to read too!
